  10. Hello Tony, Carla and Family,
Several years ago our paths crossed in the foodservice industry and have continued to grow. My mother has seen your family multiply and has always felt a connection to YOU. You have always had my mom( and me) in your best interest whether you are fighting with her or not. Thank you for keeping her going, she is CRAZY about YOU, as am I.
We are here with you Tony, through good times and bad. Please note that mom and me have grown proffessionally and personally beside you, and your appreciation, consideration, respect, and honor, is our definition of TONY TOCCO.
We have you in our prayers. With much love, Robin Rickerman XXOO

  13. Hello Tony! Here’s a blast from the past from one of your high school pals. I saw a flyer at the True Value Hardware Store at Trotterway @ Lindbergh about you. I am so sorry that you’re sick and want you to know that you will be in my prayers. I remember running into you one time at Target or Venture, I can’t recall which…but you came up to me with the biggest smile and warm, friendly greeting and that has always stuck in my mind…how very nice you are. You were always like that in high school too. You have a lovely wife and family. I know you’re proud of them. I am the mom of three handsome sons. Phillip is from my first marriage and he is 27, was a nuclear power machinists mate on a fast attack submarine in the Navy for 8 years and is living in San Diego, going to school and serving in the Navy Reserves. Denis is 15 and Jeffrey is 12. They are my Moon boys and have been keeping me busy. I work in the library at Cross Keys Middle School and am surrounded by noisy teenyboppers all day long.

I hope to be able to come to your party. You keep up the good fight, Tony. It is a privilege to know a nice guy like you. Peace, man! -Bette Moon

  14. I have known Tony for almost 20 years. I have many great stories of Tony. Some of the best ones were when he and I were refereeing the Sacred Heart 8th grade basketball tournament. During the breaks they would play music for entertainment. Tony would break into his famous “Disco Tony” routine. He would grab people out of the crowd, bring them onto the basketball court and get eveyone dancing to the YMCA. He also did his solo routines. During these tournaments, Tony was the entertainment. Tony, I really miss those days, as do all that are still involved with that tournament. Tony, you are in my families thoughts and prayers everyday. Keep on fighting Tony.

  15. I do not remember when I first met Tony/Carla,but I do remember St.Jo when he poured water on Chuck’s pants while he was sleeping and made us run on the levee to catch a jazz cruise and parked in front of the hotel, turned the radio all the way up and had us dancing outside. I cherish each and every phone call breaking me up with the blonde jokes.(yes I am) I am for ever grateful for being blessed to have them in my life,to be a witness to the love they share with each other and their friends.I love both of them not just with all of my heart but with my soul. How very proud I am to know they call me friend.I too pray for them each day.To steal from Tony “Chow for now baby”

  16. Hello Tony and Carla.
For those of you who do not know me, I am the third born child of Chuck and Helen Cox. I have had the pleasure of knowing Tony and Carla for many years now and of course knowing them has been wonderful. I am also an ASA Umpire so Tony and I do have a few things in common such as this, my parents and dancing.
I would like to share a story with everyone that is very dear to my heart. Although there are many, this one in particular will always be special to me.
We were at my parents 40th Wedding Anniversary and were all having an amazing time. I remember the very sexy, fun, flirty dress that I wore and I felt beautiful but nothing would prepare me for the way I felt when I was asked to dance by the one and only Tony Tocco. The man has moves that are out of this world.
Well, he took me into his arms, spun me around and said “just look into my eyes” and of course I was terrified at first b/c I had seen him dance with Carla and I knew what a wonderful dancer he was. But alas I did as I was told, I took a deep breath, relaxed into his arms, our eyes met and we danced. In my mind (a place that is not for the weak), I was transformed into Cinderella. Tony spun me around the dance floor and we moved as though we had danced a hundred times before. To this day, I have never been swept off my feet like that before. I can still close my eyes and see us twirling on that dance floor, all eyes on us and my heart just floating inside of me.
Tony, you have been a friend, a family member, a co-umpire, a dance partner and so much more to so many.
You thrilled me once again when you managed to get the energy to attend my first born daughters wedding this past November and again to dance with me and make me feel like I was special. You have a way of doing that without even trying.
My heart dances when I think of you and I am looking forward to meeting you once again on the dance floor.
Please know that you are often in my daily prayers, daily thoughts and always in my heart. I love you guys and am proud to say that we are family, friends.
    Donna

  17. Tony-
I just want you to know that I have been and will continue to pray for you and your family. You are an amazing human being. I have never seen someone make so many people I care about feel absolutely beautiful. Your dance moves have put a smile on the faces and in the hearts of so many of my family members it is unbelievable. From every gathering I can remember with you there I have nothing but found memories.
So THANK you for your upbeat attitude, smile, kindheart, and dance floor magic! I hope to see you out there dancing again VERY soon!

    Sincerely,
    Malorie Stockmann (Donna Cox’s Daughter)

P.S. Carla you are absolutely one of the most amazing women I have met. The love that you and Tony have for eachother is unlike any I have ever witnessed. It is something to be sooo proud of and I am so happy to have been influenced by it. I want to thank you for all the dances you gave up to allow your soulmate to spread some much needed love into this world. Don’t think your selflessness went unoticed…you are truly an inspiration.

  23. I have not read anything about Tony being an umpire soo I must tell you. Tony is an deputy umpire in chief for the biggest softball organization in the world, the Amateur Softball Associative. (A.S.A)Tony has worked many National Tournaments both here and out of state. For anyone who may not know that means you are very good. When we host a national using both local and out of state umps Tonys way of taking care of them is legend. They all, umps,Reps.UICs that have ever been here want to return. They write things like “no where else are we fed that good”, “Tony really knows how to make us welcome” ,what a great guy,on and on they go.Tony is the reason we now say about our local umps “We take care of our own on and off the field”I am sure none of us will ever know all the ways Tony helps people, now it is our turn to help him with love and prayers. I doubt he knows how very much he is loved. When I pray for him I think of the old cheer”Tony,Tony he’s our man if he cant do it no one can”And I say” Oh yes he will”I fully expect to read about him in a medical journal “The man who beat all the odds”See you and Carla at the nationals, love,Helen

  24. Hey Tony, did you get the pick I sent via Rudy? Or did he keep it for himself? haha Hope you come by the store and visit soon. We love you, Lisa and the Rallo boys

  25. Tony, I was blessed to have met you back in the mid-80′s when I was a youngster in foodservice sales. We had an immediate connection; we value family & friends, faith, working hard, and being respected in our profession. When I called on you, we always talked first about family and how each of ours were doing, then we talked business. I look forward to your rhymes and voice mail messages; they always brighten my day and put things into perspective. After all, we’re just selling food. You are the kind of guy that is like a brother. I know I can always count on you and that you mean it when you ask if I need anything. You can count on me too. You remain in my thoughts and prayers. I believe you can beat this. Many continued blessings, Helen Heilich

  26. Tony, I think of you as a big brother,a friend, and a great customer. I first met you in 1993 and started maintaining M & L Foods in 1994. I personally want to thank you for all you have done for me,all of these years. You have given a lot of yourself and your time for others. We all hold prayers for you and your family.Looking forward to talking to you soon………..Harlyn

  37. hi tony,

  38. I sent you a bigall blog last week, but apparently it got lost in cyber space. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am we could not make the dance, I guess you know we had Lauries 40th that day. I am so happy it was such a great success, if anyone deserves it, you guys do. You and Carla are an inspiration. I hope you don’t mind me saying that because when I had breast cancer and people would say that to me, I didn’t really get it. You just do what you gotta do. Thank you sooooooo much for coming to my 5 year cancer free party, I CANNOT WAIT to go to yours, (though you’ll still have to bring the shrimp LOL). Everyone who knows you knows how giving and kind you are. But I just want to pass on one more Tony story. Acouple of years ago my daughter got a Christmas gift she really wanted that I could not afford. It was a hair straightner, top of the line of course, that was gratiously supplied by my sister Stacy and her husband Bill. Anyway, we were at an umpire function and you heard me on the phone with her telling her not to cry, we would figure something out. You asked what had happened and I told you she had misplaced her straightner. You, without even hesitating, said tell me how much you need and go get her another one. I said I can’t do that, it cost about $125. You said “I don’t give a damn what it cost, just let me know if you can’t find it and I’ll buy her another one”. I’ll never forget that as long as I live. Fortunately, we found it and I never had to ask you for the money. (Hey, can I have in now, LOL) Anyway, thank you for being such a good friend to my parents and my family. We all love the shit out of you guys. Stay in the good fight babe, you got a lot more to do. love ya, Shelly/Dawn

  39. TONY, ARE YOU SMILING ???? JUST THOUGHT OF YOU AGAIN….KIND OF LIKE SEEING YOU DO A LITTLE SHUFFLE AND SINGING TO YOURSELF
“I FEEL GOOD”. KEEP ON PUSHING…..
    BOB

Not to mention all the help and support when we lost our mom. So just a little something to say thank you and to let you know i’m thinking about you. luv ya.
    Your cousin,
    Christa

  49. Tony,

I owe you more than I would like to admit. You have always been an inspiration to me and I just wanted to let you know that the inspiration and advice has not gone unheeded. Following your advice I followed my dreams all the way to San Antonio, Texas. I have been Umpiring down here for a solid six months and the years of training I have received from you on the subject of umping have treated me well as I am quickly advancing through the ranks to being an elite umpire in one of the most competitive markets around.

But let us be honest, it was never umpiring that you really shone as an important figure in my life. You helped me learn how to grow into a mature man, something very few others ever would of taken the time to do. Through the years of advice, sometimes on a weekly, who am I kidding.. daily basis I learned what it meant to be more than just a kid who looked out for himself. Through your example I have SEEN what it means to live your life for your family and friends without ever losing what made you so special to all of us.

I am a long way off from being half the man you are, but thanks to you… I am well on my way. I never got to tell you how much of a father figure and friend you have been to me over the years.

Thank you Tony, from the bottom of my heart I thank you. My fiance thanks you as well, because without the influence and impact you have had on my life I never would have followed my dreams, I’d still be in St. Louis wishing I was doing more without ever acting on it. Instead I am here, getting married and following my dreams both on and off the softball field. In a lot of ways Tony you are a hero to the community and young people all around you. I say that… because I know to me, there are none better.

I love you man and hopefully next time you are in Texas I can do my part to show you a good time… I’m only 3 hours away :P

  50. hello to the tocco family from the bennett family. tony just wanted to say hi and hope that everything is kay with your treatment. just one question tony why cant we post attachments to are post? thanks brian

  51. just thought i would drop a line to say hi and thankyou.

i was thrilled to see you back in the saddle at the national tournament. the night that the little boy was killed on the street next to the ball park, and you taking over for terry after he witnessed the horrific incident, just shows the compassion and heart felt care you have for all human beings. the one game we worked together was the highlight of my tournamnet. it went by so fast . i just hope that god will take note of your many family blessings, and let you keep having those moments where we can all believe in his miracle. you will never be alone and keep his faith .

    god bless you

from just another sinner in limbo brian

  52. Boy it’s true about you kids, give them an inch and they will take a mile!!! Chuck I want to do just one game (ASA Nationals) well maybe two!!! What was it Tony SEVEN or NINE games? I lost count. I will bet your legs know. BUT as always you did them like the pro you are I know your crew loved working with you.
Talk to you soon baby boy, always with love,Helen

  53. Hi Tony,

It seems like ages since I have seen you. I guess the last time was when you were refereeing Matt’s basketball game and that was at least 5 years ago. How time flies.

I just wanted you to know that I think of you often and have great memories of our times at the ballpark, soccer field or basketball court.

I remember when we were working with Gene and collecting cards for the CYC softball games. Seemed like a party every night when we all met up at one of the fields. Remember crazy Sherry? What a group we were.

Well, I am a Grandma now and I have a beautiful granddaughter, Samantha Jane. I enjoy every minute I can with her. Looks like you will be getting another grandbaby soon. How lucky they are to have you as a grandpa!

I will keep you and your family in my prayers daily and hope that there is something that can be done to help you win this battle you are fighting.

    Love,
    Jackie Garger

  54. Hi Tony;
Just wanted to let you hear again that a lot of people are praying for you. Often I remember some of those great parties we had at the Wedgwood Pool. Your music was great! Sooo many people have enjoyed your disco shows. Somehow that all seems so long ago…and yet, just like it was yesterday. I suppose the last time I saw you was at Senior Pique’s Mexican Restaurant when it was in Manchester. If I recall, your arm was in a sling. Or was it at the Pasta House in Ellisville. We will keep you and your family in our prayers. We are praying for many who are fighting cancer; sometimes it seems like it is winning. It sure has a lot of people on their knees, who might not be, otherwise.

  55. When I think of Mr. Tocco, I think of umpiring girls youth softball out at Kock Park. It was my first season and I was probably 13 years old (so we’re talking 17 years ago). I was near first base when a dog ran into the outfield. Mr. Tocco was behind the backstop watching the game. We looked at each other and he threw his arms into the air and without speaking mouthed “No pitch!”. I was a chicken and let the pitcher throw another pitch, but then I stopped the game until the dog left. Every time I drive past that field I remember him being there with me.
Then there was the time I was umpiring a men’s recreation softball game at St. Angela. This had to be the first game of any kind I officiated, even before the girls youth softball. There was a play at second base. I had no idea if the guy was safe or out. Seconds were going by and everyone was looking at me for the call. I was frozen. What seemed like 10 minutes went by and finally I guessed and called the guy out. He looked at me in total disbelief, I’ll never forget the look on his face. Needless to say I was really upset after the game because I was sure I made the wrong call and let everyone down. After the game I was in the concession stand and Mr. Tocco had stopped by to check on things. I told him what happened and he could see how upset I was and he told me I didn’t do anything wrong. He told me it is better to be slow and right and he said to just make the call with authority and confidence. He was always of great support like that.

    Thanks Mr. Tocco.

  56. Tony,
We think of you often and pray for your continued presence in our lives. I will always remember fondly your playing and dancing at our wedding. I have the best photo of you on our human pyramid. I’ll find it and try to upload it for you and Carla to view. We had such a great time that night! Hard to believe, but in a couple of weeks, it will have been 25 years since that night! Wow time flies. Good luck with your tratments. We hope to see you soon.
    Love always,
    John and Donna

  57. I am so saddened to hear of Tony’s passing. Tony and his family were the best neighbors we could have had. We especially think of Tony at Halloween and Christmas when his house was the center of attention for miles around!! I am blessed to have known him and I know our loss is heavens gain. Dan Oehlert
